What does photovoltaic (PV) mean?

The essence of Photovoltaic is to obtain the electric energy from the energy of sunlight. The word was first used in 1890 and has two parts: 'Photo,' which comes from the Greek word for light, phos; 'Volt' was invented by Alessandro, a pioneer in the study of electricity. A measure of voltage named after Watt (1745-1827).
