According to Mercom India Research, as of the second quarter of 2017, over 70% of the PV inverter market in India was controlled by the top five manufacturers.
ABB and other top five manufacturers account for 70% of the PV inverter market in India
ABB, the Swiss power and automation group, leads the market with a 20 per cent share, followed by Esma Solar Technologies, the German inverter maker, with about 15 per cent. To date, ABB has supplied a total of 5 gigawatts of PV inverters to the Indian market, while Esma's delivery capacity is over 3 gigawatts.
The other big suppliers are Toshiba Mitsubishi Electric Industrial Systems, Chint of China, Schneider Electric of France and Hitachi of Japan.
In the second quarter, ABB added more than 450 MW of PV inverter capacity, followed by Hitachi adding 300 MW, Esma and Chint adding more than 150 MW each, according to Mercom India Research's quarterly Market report on solar Power in India for Q2 2017.
Due to the growth of the solar market in India, more inverter manufacturers are gaining market share, according to Mercom India Research. Recently, Enphase Energy and SolarEdge Technologies have set up offices in India.
According to Mercom, India had 14.7 gigawatts of PV capacity as of June 2017, including rooftop PV capacity.
