Shi: Photovoltaics have the ability to compete with natural gas

On September 16, the International Green Energy Development Conference (China · Yangzhong) was held in Yangzhong City, Jiangsu Province. Shi Zhengrong, chairman of the organizing committee of the International Green Energy Development Conference, said during the conference that the green energy industry and technology represented by wind energy, solar photovoltaic and energy storage are developing rapidly in China. As a representative of green energy, photovoltaic has the ability to compete with natural gas.

Shi Zhengrong said that after nearly two decades of development, the global green energy has developed rapidly, especially the solar photovoltaic industry technology, product performance has made great progress, and gradually realized industrialization. At present, the application cost of photovoltaic has been reduced to 4 cents/watt, in Japan, Australia, the United States, Europe and other countries and regions, the cost of photovoltaic has been lower than the user's current electricity, has a price advantage.

In recent years, China's photovoltaic industry, with its strong manufacturing capacity and technological innovation, has emerged as an important driving force for global PV. Shi said that the price of photovoltaic products, as a kind of energy consumer goods, is a key factor affecting their marketization. At present, China's photovoltaic power consumption is less than 1 yuan per kilowatt-hour, and the cost reduction has pushed solar photovoltaic out of the research laboratory and into the homes of ordinary people.

Shi believes PV is now competitive with natural gas, but it will take a few years to compete with coal power. Whether green energy can completely replace fossil energy in the future depends not only on the promotion of national policies and macro environment, but also on the transformation and strong support of the government's development concept.

Shi is optimistic about the prospects of green energy development across the country. He believes that in the future, it is more likely to achieve 100% replacement of traditional fossil energy by green energy such as wind and solar photovoltaic. Accelerating the construction of energy infrastructure and building a trans-regional, national and even global energy Internet is conducive to rapidly improving the efficiency of green energy utilization and realizing the sharing and interconnection of green energy around the world.
